Forever Families

Alrighty, Mormons...

I want your best argument, based ONLY on the Holy Bible or your opinions (not LDS Scripture), as to why you believe families stay together forever.

I am leaning toward this argument, but for the fact that Jesus told his friends there was no marriage in Heaven.

Mark 12:25
For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

I read it--I just don't know the answer off the top of my head. Give me a day. Or three.

Re: Forever Families

As far as I can tell, no, it is not in the bible. Nor is it in the Book of Mormon. It was a revelation given to Joseph Smith.

The only related thing in the bible is Matthew 16:19 (KJV)
"And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Also, the Mark verse you quoted--I believe that means that because there was no eternal marriage at that time, then the woman who married all the brothers (which is the context of that scripture) would not be married to any of them after death.

The continuation of marriage is only valid if the husband and wife are sealed in the temple by someone with the authority to seal them. We don't believe that ALL marriages are eternal, but they all could be.

Sooo...that's your argument...."because Joseph Smith said so"??

Anything more logical? Like...the importance that God places on families in THIS life. Why would He make all that vanish or immaterial in the next life?

Give me something. LOL

I thought you were looking for a scriptural answer. Of course what you said is true!

Scripturally, though, yes, "because Joseph Smith said so."

Re: Forever Families

I just wanted opinion or facts from KJV Bible.

I mean, I could say "The Ten Commandments are God's Law because Moses said so"...but doesn't it make more sense to say "These follow what we already know about God and how He wants us to treat Him and those around us".

I'm just trying to get a sense of why it DOESN'T make sense that families last forever, I guess. My husband thinks that because we have no wants in Heaven, the desire for companionship is gone, except for the desire for Jesus...which makes sense in a way.

I mean, God didn't even initially intend to create Eve...that was an afterthought...

Re: Forever Families

My scriptures are not next to me, but here's some stuff

Gaod put Adam and Eve in the GArdenand commanded them to mulitply, that is the beginning of family,
Noah took his family with him on the ark, There are a couple fo commandments regarding family,
like honor they father and mother , as well as not coveting the neighbor's wife. ( That one tells men to pay attention to their own wives, inferentially)
There are some OT sciptures that talk about stoning bad kids, again that is part of a family.

Lineage or family lines were important. look at the lineage of Jesus, We have Jacob of the OT with his 12 sons and all the drama of who got pg when , The whole bible is about family relationships, but as to chapter and verse, the KJV doen;t have that many verses that specifically deal with commanding families.

Logically God placed us in families , we don't abandon our young at an early age. We are multi generational in our families most animals aren't.
