Re: The Constitution and Law

But the government does on occasion interfere with freedom of religion. The issue of polygamy is one example. Can you imagine what the government would say if the Jewish population wanted to do animal sacrifices?

I'd be more worried about PETA

It seems that P4P needs our understanding and prayers too. He father it seems is very ill and she is probably pretty busy taking care of him and her mother.

So- apology for the ugly thought.

And P4P I do hope that your family is alright and that you are making sure that you are taking care of yourself while taking care of others.

I PM'd her. Her father passed away about 2 weeks ago. I passed on condolences from all of us and told her we'd keep her in our prayers.

Re: The Constitution and Law

Thanks Mrs.D

Jinzie- the government can interfere in cases such as the Polygamy one only if the the 'religion' is doing something that is against civil law- i.e. the polygamy itself, because according to law one can only have a single spouse.

It is similar to the issues with Native American Religions and peyote being used during religious rituals. That had to go before courts etc, because the use of peyote is illegal under civil laws. I do not know much about the case, but I believe that the Native Americans won the right to use it - but Only as a part of the rituals and not as a regular non-religious based thing. And only the Shamans can use the substance.

BSC- thanks for the correct wording. And Congress has in fact had to make rulings- Wicca had to be approved by Congress for people in the military to state that it is their religion.

good reply Lady Em.Also thanks much for your prayers.Sure needed em and yes they did help!

I highly recommend the book ORIGINAL INTENT by David Barton. He does have some obvious bias against the Catholic Church BUT i'd honestly like to see this book used in history and social studies classes. You can get a used copy at Amazon.com dirt cheap. The book is sooo worth reading!!
Try your library. But if you would like to read it and can't possibly find a copy will send ya mine.No problemo.
