My couch!

This is what I've been doing late into the night the past 3 days.

I re-covered my couch and ottoman and made new curtains. I even took the time to make every single cushion and pillow cover removable for washing. I'm soo glad I'm done. It's nice and soft and comfy.

Before I had covered it with a black and white toile. It showed every sticky little finger print. That's why I went with a dirt colored fabric this time.

Feel free to stop by and sit on it with me!

Re: My couch!

Didn't know we had a Martha Stewart in the mix ~ wow you did a nice job. I need furniture so badly... but waiting until every kid in their neighborhood gets on their own two feet as my house has way too much activity at this time. Figure when it's me and Livy we'll lounge in style.

It really turned out pretty emoticon

Re: My couch!

Thanks!

That couch and ottoman were a steal. We bought them in Germany. The original fabric is bright orange and red and the pillows are bright orange and olive green plaid-hideously ugly. Even the Germans wouldn't buy it (and that's saying a lot--they like weird fabric).

We loved the style and size of it (you can't tell from the picture, but it's bigger than a twin size bed--two can easily lay side by side with the back pillows taken off) and it was on clearance for $500. I knew I could easily recover the cushions for $150, so we bought it.

You can't see it in the picture, but directly across from the couch is giant wall unit we bought at a thrift store in Germany. Germans call them shranks. When we brought the couch home, it dwarfed our little entertainment center, so we had to get a huge piece to balance the huge couch. It's been hard in military housing--we need a wall at least 10 feet long and a ceiling 7 feet tall to put the shrank on.

I miss Germany....

Re: My couch!

That is amazing! I can't believe you did that on your own!
I still take shirts to the dry cleaner to sew on lost buttons...

Thanks!
I can't sew clothes for crap, but home decor type sewing I'm pretty decent at. My mom was a furniture upholsterer for about a year when she got so sick of nursing she had to take a break. She taught me what to do.
